Patient Participation Group

We would like to know how we can improve our service to you and how you perceive the Practice and our staff.

All registered patients are welcome to attend any meeting of the Patient Participation Group without giving prior notice. Additional information about the Patient Participation Group

The purpose of recruiting to a Patient Participation Group (PPG) is to ensure that our patients are involved in decisions about the range and quality of services we provide and, over time, commissioned by our Practice.

The Group will be properly constituted with terms of reference which are to be agreed but will broadly include consultation with patients about changes to services.

Although areas of priority will be agreed with the PPG, it will not discuss any clinical issues or any individual issues which should be taken up with the Practice in the normal way.

We are keen to have a wide diversity of patients of all age groups and ethnic minorities. We want to hear from carers, those with learning difficulties and those in nursing homes and the unemployed. To facilitate this we will be writing to our learning disability and nursing homes and to a carers’ forum.

There will be two tiers of consultation. The structure is to be agreed but the PPG is likely to be relatively small say 7/10 patients or carers of patients who will meet at the surgery at lunchtime possibly bi monthly and will appoint a spokesperson to report say quarterly into the weekly Practice Meeting of GPs.

This is a voluntary unpaid role. From the PPG a person will also be recruited to sit on a Federation Steering Group which is made up of 31 practices and will commission services for 260,000 patients in Sutton and Merton.

The second tier will consist of a much larger group of patients who will be needed to complete surveys to ensure that the decisions and priorities identified by the PPG is representative of all patients. Communication with the survey group will be by email.

The process for achieving our PPG is as follows:

  • Develop a structure that gains the views of patients and enables the practice to obtain feedback from the practice population.
  • Agree areas of priority within the PPG
  • Collate patient views through use of a survey (for which we need a much larger group).
  • Provide the PPG with opportunity to discuss survey findings and reach agreement with the PPG on changes to services.
  • Agree an Action Plan with the PPG and seek PPG agreement to implementing changes.
  • Publicise actions taken and subsequent achievement on our website and throughout the practice.

There is a form to be completed at both receptions and also on this website. It is anticipated that all patients that complete the form will be included in our regular surveys.

We will contact a cross section of patients from all ages, sex, ethnic minorities, employed/unemployed, and carers to provide as wide a representation as possible to sit on the small group.
